The Girls Inc. NSV Youth Leadership Council (a leadership body made up of local high school girls) is collecting donations for their community action project!

All of the donations brought in by their peers and at our Girls Inc. drop-off locations will all go towards O2 Employment Service’s 11th Annual Give Redding Holiday Drive to benefit the children and families of One Safe Place and other local non-profits.

The holiday season is a critical time for non-profits as they count on donations to not only provide Thanksgiving, Christmas and holiday needs but also to stock their pantries for the upcoming year. Please join the Youth Leadership Council in helping our community’s families in need! A shopping list and list of drop-off locations can be found below.

Youth Leadership Council Informational Meeting

Youth Leadership Council 

The Girls Inc. Youth Leadership Council is a leadership body made up of local high school girls ages 14-18 (grades 9-12), as well as select junior high (7th or 8th) girls, who advise and inform Girls Inc. of the Northern Sacramento Valley (NSV) by sharing their life experiences and their views about issues facing girls in their communities. With support from women in the community, girls will develop their leadership skills and realize their own power as community resources and trustees of the common good. Girls will meet from 4-6pm on the first and third Monday of the month at the Girls Inc. office.

This program will run until June 2024, with options to continue into the next school year. 

Qualifications:

  • Current high school student, ages 14-18 (grades 9-12) and select junior high (7th or 8th) girls

  • Enthusiastic about supporting Girls Inc. leadership activities on an as-needed basis. This may include leadership training, volunteering at Girls Inc. events and/or programs, and providing input to the Girls Inc. team.

  • Passionate about developing your leadership skills.

  • Comfortable speaking in a group setting, whether in-person or on a video meeting platform.

  • Comfortable representing Girls Inc. as part of the Youth Leadership Council (YLC).

  • Available to commit approximately 2-4 hours a month to YLC-related activities.

  • Committed to timely and responsive communication and upholding expectations outlined in the Girls Inc. Youth Leadership Council agreement.

The Night On The Nile Gala will be a signature fundraising event attended by hundreds of influential and charitable-minded individuals who recognize the positive impact Girls Inc. NSV has on the lives of the young women we serve. This festive event will be the perfect opportunity to dine with friends as we dress to impress and highlight the generational impact of Girls Inc. programming. Attendees will be invited to maximize their support by participating in our live auction, where all items will have a minimum value of $1,000.

All proceeds raised from this event will help provide funding for educational and empowerment programs for girls in the North State.

When: Tuesday, July 18th - Friday, July 21st, 2023

Location: Lassen Volcano Adventure Camp in Lassen Volcanic National Park

Registration Cost: $100

It's time to camp, explore, dream, and discover! Shasta and surrounding county girls, ages 10-13, are invited to sign up for the Annual Girls Inc. NSV Camping Trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park

Our camping trip will be from Tuesday, July 18th through Friday, July 21st at the Lassen Volcano Adventure Camp. Girls will sleep in camping cabins and have the opportunity to make lasting memories with friends as we visit Manzanita Lake, hike the local trails, plan an outdoor adventure, learn survival skills, and participate in ranger-led activities. 

We can't wait to learn about volcanoes, tell stories around the campfire, and explore the beautiful scenery with you!

*Scholarships are available!

*NEW* Counselor-In-Training Program

Girls Inc. NSV is excited to offer a new component of our camping trip this year - Counselor-In-Training. Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is for girls ages 15-18 who are looking for leadership opportunities to increase their leadership skills, encourage them to gain new life skills, and expand their horizons. Under the guidance of the Girls Inc. NSV Director and program staff, CITs will act as leaders and mentors for campers, and assist with a variety of activities.

Interested girls must apply for a CIT position by completing the CIT application at https://forms.gle/iQKqQRkjnBg3qwQz8 

Space is limited, and not all applicants will be selected. CITs must be available the duration of the camping trip. CITs will not be charged to attend camp.


Event Details:

This trip will be chaperoned by Girls Inc. staff and mentors. Transportation to/from Lassen and all food + beverages will be provided for the entire trip. 

Please pack a sleeping bag, pillow, comfortable tennis shoes, flip flops, clothing appropriate for hiking and outdoor activities, some warm clothes for the evening, and a bathing suit. Additional details will be emailed to all registrants.

About the Program

When: Every Other Thursday 10:21 - 11:21 AM Begins February 9th, 2023

Location: Central Valley High School

In this Healthy Living and Life Skills program, girls will be empowered with the tools to transform their self-image, realize their full potential, take on a variety of leadership roles, and be independent thinkers. Participants will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to be in charge of their bodies + sustain a healthy, positive sense of self. Interactive sessions focus on recognizing and moving beyond limiting sex-role stereotypes for women; using values as a basis for positive decision-making; building assertiveness, refusal, and relationship skills; + avoiding risky behavior.

With support from their Girls Inc. Facilitator, 9th-12th grade girls will learn about the importance of physical activity, a positive body image, healthy eating habits, and that stress management is a normal part of life. Furthermore, girls will be encouraged to be an advocate for their own well-being, so they can be healthy today + throughout their lives, and realize their own power as community resources + trustees of the common good.

*Class will not be in session during President's Week and Spring Break.

1st Annual Girls Inc. Golf Tournament

It's time to GOLF FORE GIRLS!

The 1st Annual Girls Inc. Golf Tournament offers an outstanding day of golf on Grape Ranch Golf Club's golf course in Palo Cedro. The tournament generates critical support for the hundreds of girls who participate in Girls Inc. NSV school and community-based programs.

Breakfast will be provided before tee time and thirst-quenching beverages will be available throughout the day. Golfers will receive a swag bag, additional bonus gifts, and opportunities to win prizes throughout the day. A delicious lunch is also included immediately following golf along with the announcement of winning teams.

The money raised from this tournament will ensure that Girls Inc. programming can remain cost-free for girls in the North State. Our programs spark an interest in science, technology, engineering and math, promote drug and pregnancy prevention, foster self-esteem and teach skills such as stress management, financial literacy, and community leadership - and with YOUR HELP, even more girls will be able to participate!!

In this Leadership and Community Action program, girls deepen their understanding of girls and women as social change agents and realize their own power as community resources and trustees of the common good. Girls will develop an understanding of citizen rights and responsibilities and they will practice leadership skills, both on the individual level and the collective level.

This spring program will be a continuation of Bella Vista’s winter leadership activities and community project.
